The Laboratory of Polymer Synthesis

   History

The laboratory of polymer synthesis was established in 1958. Since 1958 to 1960 the head of the laboratory was Rafikov S.R., corresponding member of AS of Soviet Union, academician of AS of Kazakh Soviet Republic. Since 1960 the permanent head of the laboratory is Zhubanov Bulat Akhmetovich, academician of NAS of Kazakhstan, DSc, professor, Meritorious Science Worker and Laureate of State Prize of Kazakh Soviet Republic.
In the beginning of establishing there were tho basic directions of development in the laboratory, polycondensation and polymerization. The main directions of activity in polycondensation were studies on interaction of para- and metha-xylilendiamins with different dicarboxilic acids leading to formation of polyamides (V.P. Derevyanchenko, L.V. Pivovarova, M.M. Tarnorutskiy, and etc.). Another developing direction in those years were works concerned with radical polymerization of vynil monomers (S.R. Rafikov, G.P. Gladyshev, K.M. Gibov, T. Ya. Smirnova, P.E. Messerle, and etc.).
In the late 60-s by two-stage method the series of polyamidoimides of high degradation temperature, 400°C, were obtained by direct reaction of trimellitic anhydride with different diamines (S.A. Moshkevich, L.B. Rukhina, P.E. Messerle, T.P. Mimakov, T.K. Musina, and etc.).
The investigations on creation of novel compounds, imides, including diimides of tetracarboxilic acids of aromatic and alicyclic structure, were carried out in the laboratory in order to widen the range of reactions and monomers for thermostable polymers (I.A. Arkhipova, S.B. Saidenova, E.M. Imashev, N.P. Lubchenko, L.V. Kim, M.B. Leonova, and etc.). Novel polyfunctional monomers and polymers on the basis of diketondianhydrides, stable up to 500°С, were developed (P.E. Messerle, O.V. Grinina, T.K. Musina,G.V. Orlova, and etc.). The synthesis of cyclic tricyclodecen-tetracarboxylic dianhydride, so called photoadduct of benzol, was developed by reaction of benzol with maleic anhydride upon UV-irradiation icluding sun-spectrum. The results of the investigations were summarized in the following monographs: "Novel thermostable heterocyclic polymers" B.A. Zhubanov, I.A. Arkhipova, O.A. Almabekov, Alma-Ata, 1979 and "Halogen-containing polyimides" B.A. Zhubanov, V.D. Kravtsova, O.A. Almabekov, K.Kh. Bekmagambetova, Almaty, 2004 (O.A. Almabekov, V.D. Kravtsova, N.U. Shpilman, G.M. Mirkarimova, S.L. Kydyrbekov, G.K. Kozhabekova, B.B. Sadykov, K.O. Kozybayev, and etc.).
Correlations between donor-acceptor properties of solvents and reaction ability of monomers in water-organic mixtures were established by systematic studies of thermodinamic and kinetic regularities of dianhydride-diamine interaction in different reaction media (V.A. Solomin, V.V. Lyapunov, U.A. Dubitskiy, E.N. Lyakh, and etc.). Novel high-temperature one-stage technique for macromolecular soluble polyimides synthesis by catalitical polyacylate reaction of diamines with alicyclic tetracarboxylic dianhydrides intramolecular cyclization of amidoacid fragments was developed (G.I. Boiko, R.F. Mukhamedova, A. Sh. Zainullina, M.B. Umerzakova, S.K. Kudaikulova, K.D. Netalieva, B.K. Donenov, and etc.). The thermal stability of alicyclic polyimides was investigated as a function of metod of synthesis, origin of monomers, solvent, catalyst(M.B. Leonova, G.M. Mirkarimova). Novel fire-protection frothing (foaming) covers were developed and used in different areas for protection of wood, metallic and rubber materials (K.M. Gibov, I.I. Nikitina, M.A. Abdikarimov, L.V. Shapovalova, T. Kh.Dovlichin, and etc.). For polymers with polyconjugated system based on nitriles and organic thiocianates it was also determined the kinetics and mechanizm of the synthesis (N.D. Zavorukhin, N.Zh. Kazakova, T.Ya. Smirnova, L.B. Iriskina, B.A. Belekhov, M.V. Favorskaya, and etc.).
Bisdiazone salts were studied in reactions with different aromatic heterocycles - pirrol, thiofen, furane and pyridine. New technique of non-traumatic chemical metallization of polyimide materials was developed in order to obtain thermally-stable film materials with special thermal-, electroconductive and optical properties (S.K. Kudaikulova, G.I. Boiko, I.D. Shalabayeva, A.G. Syzdykova, Z.S. Musapirova, and etc.).
Since early 80-s the laboratory started investigations towards making of polymers with biocompatible and terapeutic functions. Results of these researches are summarized in monographs "Polymeric drug systems in therapy" B.A. Zhubanov, E.O. Batyrbekov, R.M. Iskakov, Almaty, 2000; "Polymeric hydrogels in pharmacy: physico-chemical aspects" I.E. Suleimenov, R.M. Iskakov, E.O. Batyrbekov et. all, Almaty, 2004; "Polymeric biomaterials" R.M. Iskakov, E.O. Batyrbekov, I.E. Suleimenov, E.A. Bekturov, B.A. Zhubanov, Almaty, 2005. (S.A. Moshkevich, E.O. Batyrbekov, L.B. Rukhina, O.B. Shipunova, E.I. Kombikova, B.I. Nurmukhambetova, R.M. Iskakov).
Novel medicine forms of anti-inflammation preparation "Gliderinin", antiglaukome "Pylokarpine" radio-protector RP-3 and eye films "Klofeoptic", were developed. (G.I. Boiko, R.F. Mukhamedova, M.B. Umerzakova, O.V. Khutoryanskaya, Zh. K. Mustafina).
Results of the most part of all experimental works in laboratory are reflected in 14 Doctoral (D.Sc.) (O.A. Almabekov, I.A. Arkhipova, E.O. Batyrbekov, Zh. Zh. Bayarstanova, G.I. Boiko, K.M. Gibov, G.P. Gladyshev, B.A. Zhubanov, R.M. Iskakov, V.D. Kravtsova, T.P. Mimakov, P.E. Messerle, V.A. Solomin, M.B. Umerzakova) and about 65 Ph.D. dissertations.
At the present the lab's team fruitfully works under the direction of academician B.A. Zhubanov (R.M. Iskakov, V.D. Kravtsova, M.B. Umerzakova, E.O. Batyrbekov, R.B. Sarieva, Z.S. Musapirova, M.A. Abilova, E.L. Vecherkina, A.N. Tleumukhambetova, D. Kasymbekova, M.D. Kim, S.N. Shmakov, S.V. Sedinkin) and couragilly looks forward the future. In order to develop novel innovative and Hi-Tech technologies we systematically study the ways to obtain new monomers and polymeric materials with controllable functional activity.
